Random Wrestling Thoughts Sept 14th

Are the rosters getting too large?

Let me be the first to say, I am one of the biggest whiners when it comes to seeing the same old same old in the ring all the time.  I've made no bones about how tired I feel just watching RVD and Hardy and Hogan in TNA and watching Cena and Triple H and Rock in WWE.

But, at the same time, we see guys listed on the rosters that sometimes never see the light of a television screen. Usually, these are the ones who carry the house shows, who show up for small town events and headline.

Many fans bitch because these mid-card guys don't get the quality time they worked so hard for, and it's true.  They should be given more air time.  Which is why I personally really like NXT.

But, are they getting pushed down the line because of the few big uber stars, or because there are just so many guys in each of the bigger companies?

Would the industry benefit from two or three more smaller companies pushing their way into the spotlight?  Giving the wrestlers more choices then they have now for work?
That would be a given.

I've had a few conversations with the odd fan here and there (okay my cousin and his buddies) about how wasteful it was for WWE to have brought someone like Brock Lesner back for a few months when they could have taken any guy already in their roster and built him up as the next big star.
I'm not saying it didn't bring in some old fans and their cashflow for the few moments he was around.  What I am saying is that the time and energy used up in promoting him could have been used to establish someone already in the company who could have laid the ground work for the next few years.

Everyone wants to be the star of the big companies, but when great talent is wasting like dead grapes on a vine, sometimes it's best to ask yourself if it's really worth it to be waiting for your turn or if you should just find a new sandbox?
